Interview with Michael Cheney on the Creation of His New AdSense Training Videos

Interview with Michael Cheney

Q. So what made you get started with AdSense?

A. I was looking for a way to monetize some of my websites. AdSense is such an easy thing to get started with the eye for it would be a great way to start earning more money without actually putting into much more effort. I think as soon as you see the first earnings coming into your account you get addicted to AdSense. I know is what happened to me and since then I've just spent time working out how to earn more and more each day.

Q. How much do you make with AdSense?

A. Some days I can earn close to $1000 and others it's less than that. But it all comes down to how much time and effort you devote to creating a quality site that people like visiting. AdSense is not what my business is based on by any means - but it is a great way to earn revenue almost on autopilot.

Q. What is the biggest mistake people making with AdSense?

A. Probably the biggest mistake people make is thinking the AdSense earnings are easy to achieve. It is very easy to get started but as I learned it takes a lot of effort to increase your earnings. I got really downhearted whenever I would log in to my account to see that I had only made a few dollars. And that's when I decided to spend months and months of my time learning everything I could about AdSense.

I basically buried myself away and devoured every single piece of AdSense information I could find. I ran thousands of AdSense tests and started to see a dramatic effect on my click through ratio and therefore on my earnings.

This is why I'd decided to record the videos - because I knew that it would help people who were in my position to also increase their earnings. I've read an absolute ton of AdSense e-book's but they take so long to go through and always seem to keep information back.

With AdSense Videos I knew that I had to tell the story exactly as it is and actually show people and lead them by the hand through the exact techniques that I use to generate large earnings from AdSense.

Q. In your videos you show people how to increase their AdSense earnings - can you give us a taster of this advice?

A. I don't want to give away my biggest secrets as you can understand! But some of the more basic things that you can do to increase your revenues include using ads that blend in rather than stand out from your content. Flat out the worst thing you can do with an AdSense ad is make it look like the standard Google ad. What you need to realise is that you will get more clicks if your ad actually appears part of your site rather than something that's just been dropped into the page.

Q. What would you recommend that someone do right now to increase their AdSense earnings?

A. I've created a totally free AdSense minicourse that people can go through to learn some of my techniques. It takes you through the four cornerstone principles that I've used to build up my AdSense empire. You can check it out, as well as all the AdSense Videos, here: Michael Cheney's AdSense Videos

Why You Must Write Articles!

Copyright 2004 James Tyler

Why? Because...

This allows the people who read your article to find you and
learn more about your business. When other ezines and websites
publish your articles (and they will --- some of them
instantly), your resource box will be included which will help
you increase traffic, gain subscribers & improve your link
popularity for the search engines.

1000's are waiting to visit Your Website! This will help them
find you!

I want you to write an article. (I have included some help)

I don't care if you don't know "how to write an article" ---
you MUST write one today!

I want you to write a simple "How To" article related to working
at home, home business, Internet marketing, information
publishing, affiliate programs or something along these lines..."

Example: "How to Start an Article Exchange/Trading Center".

Or " How to be Published online"! Anything of interest.

Why? Because...

.. writing articles is one of the most effective ways to market
your website on the Internet and increase your subscriber base
automatically, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week! And, it's FREE.

Remember, 1000's are waiting to visit Your Website! This will
help them find you! (YOU DO WANT THEM TO FIND YOU!)

Believe me, no matter how inexperienced you think you are right
now, you know more than a lot of people out there ... and if you
need to do a little research for your article, just visit………
http://www.google.com and type in the subject you are looking for.

For more help, check out:

12 Tips for Writing Articles on the Internet
http://www.brisney.com/internet-writing.htm

For more choices, visit http://www.google.com and search for
"article directories". At the time of this writing, there is
certainly no shortage of listing as Google pulls up 1,120,000
results.

Don't spend any more than a few hours on this project. Your
article should be 500-1000 words preferably formatted to no more
than 65 characters per line.

Another great way to accomplish this is to have what is
known as an Article Exchange/Article Trading Center
on your website. (Do you need a website-setup free?)
email me at end of article, I can help you here!

This is where you would swap articles with other
webmasters/article authors in order to benefit both parties.

This is done much the same way as exchanging links but
with far more effective results (in my opinion). There are
many benefits to adding an article center to your site:

*Builds your reputation and online presence

*Establishes you as a reliable online presence

*Increases your circle of contacts and networking

*Improves your search engine status

*Provides readily available ezine content

*Adds content to your website

When you find the articles you are looking for, contact
the author (this will be you soon enough) and explain your
offer. Let him/her know the benefits of trading articles with
you. Be selective in choosing the articles. You want well
written articles that contain helpful information and/or
resources. (Hint here-see why YOU have to write?)

PUBLISH OR PERISH! Ever heard that before?

What you need to do is trade and write articles for and with
quality, websites that compliment, not compete, with your
website. Join some of the article lists above to find
the type of article and research what you are looking for.

You can also visit websites with article directories.

You will instantly be able to get your articles posted on
popular websites in all corners of the world. This will improve
your link popularity and allow more opportunities for people to
find your website.

Compiling a vast and varied Article Exchange/Trading Center
will draw more visitors to your site as well as improve your
ranks in the search engines. Having your articles posted all over the net will help build your reputation and increase your online success. Get started today on your new Article Exchange/ Trading Center!

Write-Be famous be known! Have a huge Swipe

File! (Hint you do have a "swipe" file?)

Plus, ezine & website publishers are always searching these
directories looking for new articles to use for their own
newsletter or website and when they publish your work, they are
required to include your resource box which can lead to
thousands & thousands of dollars worth of exposure for your
website and the only thing it costs you is a little bit of time
and perseverance.

At the end of your article, create a resource box. Example:
(This is a must or it kinda defeats the purpose, right?)

Why You Need A Mentor

The answer is simple. Because you don’t know everything.

No matter how much education, how many degrees, how much success, there are times when we could all “learn a few things from the experts.”

That’s true even in the small things.

I remember when I tried to replace the “floating ball do-hickey contraption” in the toilet tank. Hmm…what a challenge that was… I really discovered that basic plumbing was not my expertise! Not even in the slightest.

Yet in similar ways, many "would-be" internet marketers bravely struggle along alone just as I struggled with the pieces of that stupid toilet tank contraption.

They try to put their project/business together from the pieces they understand. And yet they can’t figure out how to make the whole thing work.

“I need an autoresponder.”
“How do I do a link exchange?”
“What about that pay-per-click advertising?”
“I better start a list. They say ‘the money is in the list.’”
“But I better build a website first. Who do I host with?”
“How do I catch my subscriber’s names?”
“I should have a blog..but what will I do with it when I get one?”
“What about Adsense..I’ve got to get on board with that too.”
“What’s a niche..how do I find a good one?”
“Does SEO software work? What kind should I look at?”

And on and on….

Many “would-be" internet marketers need to face the facts. They won’t achieve the success they are looking for in this “piece-meal fashion.” A step-by-step blueprint to success is the answer. A mentoring program with real interaction with real human beings is the answer.

How do you find such a mentoring program?

Do a search on Google for Internet marketing forums. Join a few forums. Hang out and ask questions. Read the archived posts thoroughly. Who do the members trust? What programs and software do they like? Who do they recommend? Then begin to explore your options.

Look for a mentoring program that provides step-by-step instructions for learning. After all, in the marketing world, it’s easy enough to get overwhelmed by all of the options in the beginning.

Look for an interactive website or way of getting help quickly when you need it or when questions come up. A responsive administrator is a must.

And also consider joining mentoring programs that help you earn while you learn. It’s no fun soaking a load of cash into your online marketing education and then discovering that it will be some time before you recover any or all of your investment.

Keep these things in mind and success will indeed be yours!

When Disaster Strikes Your Data

What will you do when your computer crashes and you lose
every single one of your most important files?

"Physician heal thyself!" - a well-worn phrase that simply
means before you give advice to others make sure your own
house is in order.

Well, sadly, that's not 100% the case here.

I'm writing this article as much to remind myself as to
remind you that backing up your computer files represents
one of the most important parts of responsible computing.

Backing up your computer used to be really difficult. I
still don't understand what Microsoft was trying to do with
it's backup utility in the pre-Windows 95 days.

But, with the advent of easier-to-use software and the
proliferation of CD burners, nobody has any excuse for not
keeping their important files safe.

Program vs. Data Files

It's important to understand the difference between program
files and data files because this will make the difference
between your backups taking a few minutes or, quite
unnecessarily, a few hours.

Program files are the immense files that make programs like
"Quicken," "Windows," and "Excel" work on your computer.

Those files are all available on the installation disks
that came with your computer and, unless you have a
specific reason, there is usually no need to back up those
program files.

The files you do want to back up are the ones that contain
your data, including: your word processing documents;
spreadsheets; html website files; databases of names and
addresses.

A data file is basically anything you create or a program
creates that cannot be replaced by re-installing the
program itself.

Those are the files you must back up on a regular basis.

Mirroring Your Hard Drive

"Mirroring" your hard drive is a technique whereby you
create an exact copy or your hard drive, including program
files.

This technique has become popular as hard drives have
gotten relatively huge compared to just a few years ago.

With special software it is possible to create an exact
copy of your hard drive, either on the same hard drive, a
second hard drive, or on a CD-ROM.

If something goes wrong you can simply go back to a time
before the problem started and restore your computer to its
previous state.

The technique works great when dealing with viruses or data
loss.

Saving Files on CD-ROM

This represents the fastest and easiest way to back up your
data files without special software and without having to
sit at your computer inserting 20 floppy disks one right
after the other.

To back up to CD-ROM all you need is a CD burner in your
computer and a blank CD.

On a regular basis you should simply copy your data files
onto a CD-ROM and then store it in a safe place.

I personally keep an updated CD in my safety deposit box at
the bank so I could reactivate all of my businesses
quickly.

*** Special Message for Website Owners ***

Make sure you have a copy of your entire website and all
necessary files and scripts to run it safely stored on a
CD-ROM so you could instantly transfer your business from
one web host to another.

Some online business owners learned this lesson the hard
way during a recent natural disaster when their web servers
got wiped off the face of the earth.

Access Your PC From The Road

Have you ever sat in front of your computer and wished you
could show someone else what appeared on your screen?

Maybe you were experiencing a problem, or couldn't figure
out how to make something work, but you knew if someone
else could see what was happening on your screen, they
could help you fix the problem immediately.

Ever had a phone conversation with someone about a
particular business topic, but you just couldn't "connect"
with your ideas because it was too hard to explain over the
phone?

Now, visualize jumping on the phone with that same person
and literally sharing your computer's desktop to
collaborate, discuss, and create virtually anything
together, even if you are separated by thousands of miles.

Though this may sound like an episode of Star Trek, remote
computer sharing is actually a daily business reality.

Imagine you need to take a trip and you either don't want
to or can't take your computer.

The thought of emails piling up for days makes you crazy
and you also need to monitor some things on your pc.

Instead of trying to lug your laptop (or fit your desktop
into your suitcase), you can use "remote desktop" software
that allows you to access your computer through the
Internet from any other computer in the world.

One of the most common remote desktop services is
GoToMyPC.com, which provides a safe and secure way for you
to go down to the local internet café, log on, and access
your office or home computer just like sitting at your own
desk.

Now, before you panic and think anyone can access your
computer, let me explain security.

First, you log in to the GoToMyPC.com website with a
username and password.

Once logged in, you then click a link to log onto your PC,
which will then ask you for another password.

GoToMyPC.com has even thought of a solution for those of
you worried about people looking over your shoulder as you
enter your passwords on a public computer or if the
computer you use might carry a keystroke logger.

Before leaving home, you can program in a series of up to
99 passwords that only work one time.

This means even if someone watches you log into your
computer or records your keystrokes, the password you used
won't work again.

If a would-be thief tries to access your computer too many
times, GoToMyPC.com will shut down all access attempts to
your PC.

The benefits of remotely accessing your PC from the road
are numerous, but the bottom line is that it enables you to
use your computer from the road like you never left home.

For example: while traveling to a conference this weekend,
my wife (and business partner) accessed our office computer
from my laptop and, instead of the usual pile of 4,000
emails that would normally await after 5 days away, we just
picked up this morning like we'd never been gone.

The same company that offers GoToMyPC.com also offers a
service called GoToMeeting.com which allows you to remotely
host a meeting where multiple users can share and
collaborate on a single computer desktop.

This service makes it super simple to provide online
training, do software demos, and even make complete sales
presentations.

I personally use both of these services and find them easy,
reliable and well worth the price.

Can You Survive in an Online World?

Do you have the skills to make it in a computer driven, increasingly online world?

Your immediate, knee-jerk reaction may be "Yes! Of course I have the skills."

"I know how to send and receive email and surf the web."

"I can even download and install files."

Well, three or four years ago, email, Web surfing and downloading files qualified you as "electronically literate," but not any more! Computer and online survival skills now encompass much more than that.

Surviving in an online world involves maintaining a high degree of "electronic literacy," which means focusing on and developing skills in the following areas:

** Personal Computer skills **

In the old days of 1998, the ability to use a computer, keyboard and mouse rated anyone as computer-literate.

In fact, you were a real pro if you could burn a CD, scan documents and manipulate digital pictures.

Fast forward to today and "personal computer skills" carries a whole new meaning. You must know how to maintain and update not only anti-virus, but "anti-spyware," and
firewall software too.

You also need to understand how operating with Windows ME, or 2000, or XP will affect your ability to use certain software along with specific security precautions to avoid trouble from hackers.

** Internet Skills **

In the bygone era of 1998, friends considered you an online genius if you possessed basic surfing and navigation skills.

They watched in awe as you used search engines like InfoSeek.com (a long-defunct search engine) to find and download programs, pictures, and information on specific
topics.

Now electronic literacy means the ability to set up, upload, and maintain basic web pages and blogs.

It also means understanding terms such as "RSS" and "news aggregator" because that's the next generation of how information will get disseminated online (and it arrives
for the masses this year).

** Email Skills **

Perhaps the most deceptively simple of all the areas of electronic literacy, email actually presents the most challenges for keeping up with the times.

Previously, clicking the "send and receive" button meant you were proficient at using email.

Now, because of spam, viruses and "phishing scams" (identity theft schemes delivered through email), email requires a whole new set of skills, "street smarts" and
software just to survive.

You must understand how to use an email "preview" program such as MailWasher.net to eliminate spam and virus email messages before they ever reach your computer.

You also must learn to protect your identity and avoid "phishing scams" by learning to recognize and defend against online con-artist tactics.

** Buy or Borrow Expertise **

Though you should constantly upgrade your skills through personal education, nobody can do or know it all (except maybe your know-it-all bother in law).

The good news is that you can always buy or borrow someone else's expertise to solve any online challenge.

A prime example of outsourcing in the consumer market is all the little stores popping up in strip malls to help you sell your stuff on eBay.

Through outsourcing, online survival skills can also mean taking what was previously the exclusive realm of computer geeks and making it as easy as dropping off the dry
cleaning.

Answering the Knock of a Business 'Opp'

It's not so hard to see why consumers would be drawn to ads for business opportunities that trumpet "be your own boss," "set your own hours," "work from home," and "earn money quickly." But the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) says that business opportunity promotions like these often are scams that take consumers' money and fail to deliver on the promises.

Before investing in any "biz opp," the FTC suggests that consumers:

* Look at the ad carefully. If it claims buyers can earn a certain income, it also must give the number and percentage of previous purchasers who achieved the earnings. If an earnings claim is there - but the additional information isn't - the business opportunity seller is probably violating the law.
* Get earnings claims in writing. If the business opportunity costs $500 or more, then the promoter must back up the earnings claim in a written document. It should include the earnings claim, as well as the number and percentage of recent clients who have earned at least as much as the promoter suggested. If it's a work-at-home or other business opportunity that involves an investment of under $500, ask the promoter to put the earnings information in writing.
* If the business opportunity is a franchise, study the disclosure document. Look for a statement about previous purchasers. If the document says there are no previous purchasers but the seller offers a list of references, be careful: the references probably are fake.
* Interview each previous purchaser in person, preferably where their business operates. The FTC requires business opportunity promoters to give potential purchasers the names, addresses and phone numbers of at least 10 previous purchasers who live the closest to the potential purchaser. Interviewing previous purchasers helps reduce the risk of being misled by phony references.
* Contact the attorney general's office, state or county consumer protection agency and Better Business Bureau both where the business opportunity promoter is based and where you live to find out whether there is any record of unresolved complaints.
* If the business opportunity involves selling products from well-known companies, call the legal department of the company whose merchandise would be promoted. Find out whether the business opportunity and its promoter are affiliated with the company. Ask whether the company has ever threatened trademark action against the promoter.
* Consult an attorney, accountant or other business advisor before you make the deal.
* Take your time. Promoters of fraudulent business opportunities often use high-pressure sales tactics. But, if the business opportunity is legitimate, it'll still be around when you're ready to decide.

The FTC works for the consumer to prevent fraudulent, deceptive and unfair business practices in the marketplace and to provide information to help consumers spot, stop, and avoid them. To file a complaint or to get free information on consumer issues, visit www.ftc.gov or call toll-free, 1-877-FTC-HELP (1-877-382-4357); TTY: 1-866-653-4261. The FTC enters Internet, telemarketing, identity theft, and other fraud-related complaints into Consumer Sentinel, a secure, online database available to hundreds of civil and criminal law enforcement agencies in the U.S. and abroad.
